7 Things I Wish Someone Had Told Me About Social Media Marketing

Whether you are a marketer hired by event planners or an event planner who needs to make use of social media marketing, it’s very likely you’ll learn a thing or two that you didn’t expect. I certainly did.

In fact, if someone had told me these things at the beginning it might have made things easier. If nothing else, I think it would have driven away many of my doubts.

  1. It never ends! When I began playing around on Twitter in 2009, I had no idea how much time it would take to accomplish anything on social media. Back then, I needed to market our audio visual company, Icon Presentations and I was looking for ways to connect to our target market, event planners.

    It wasn’t very long till I realized that the only people who seemed to achieve anything business-wise on Twitter, were those who were using the platform all the time. They had a consistent presence that was all about engaging with others and sharing useful information. When I followed their example and began to employ a consistent strategy of sharing useful content, both my own and from others; having conversations with people; and taking those relationships off-line whenever possible, I started to see results.

  2. Basic graphic design skills will really help you. Being able to write is a necessity for content marketers. But having basic graphic design skills really helps.
