The 3 R’s of One to One Marketing

“We get the right message to the right person at the right time, through the right channel”

Do these 3 R’s of one to one marketing sound familiar? :)

Arndt Family - The 3 R's of One to One MarketingThis statement, straight from our website, couldn’t be truer. Here at Bluewater, we pride ourselves on doing this exact thing for our clients.

And I can tell you that in my own personal life, I have found that the 3 R’s of one to one marketing including: those messages, the ones that come to me using the right channel, at the exact right time in my life, are those that are most effective.

What I’ve learned through different milestones in my own life (new dog, new home, new baby), is that you need to use the power of data to know your customer, but what’s even more important is knowing when and how to target them.  No longer do generic messages and cold calling benefit the customer. We want to feel like brands know us. We want to feel like we’re getting special offers, specific to our own lives, right when we need them.

Minted - The 3 R's of One to One MarketingFor me, a great example of this “right message, right person, right time and right channel” practice is by the print websiteMINTED. I had recently ordered our Christmas cards through them, using a promotion I received due to liking them on Facebook. Shortly after I received a custom, personalized email that was just for me!

Subject:  “Lindsay, we put your photo in our custom art prints.”

And wouldn’t you know, there is my family in a few different prints!

  • Right person: Me! (An already loyal customer)
  • Right message: “Turn your photo into the perfect custom gift”  – which also includes a coupon code for 15% off.
  • Right time: Christmas season, gift season, feeling warm and fuzzy season.
  • Right channel: email, which I check on my mobile phone.

Knowing your customer is a key to ensuring you have a successful marketing campaign. Use the information you have, but make sure you use it correctly. Remember, it all comes down to the 3 R’s of one to one marketing: getting the right message, to the right person, at the right time, and using the right marketing channels.
