Longtime friends Thomas Lashier and Austin Jensen met in 1991 when they were little and their dreams were big.
Their get-rich projects as kids included selling pop, hot chocolate and lemonade, a DVD rental shop in a family basement and a kids’ camp that was a glorified babysitting service.
At Iowa State University, they printed cheap T-shirts that were a hit, selling 100 in less than 30 minutes. The friends went their separate ways professionally post-college but then decided to create a digital marketing company.
“I was hired to manage the marketing for a local company in Urbandale. Once I got them up and running, they didn’t need me on a daily basis 8-5. Austin and I were talking one day and said there probably were a lot of local companies in the Des Moines area who could use a little help with their digital marketing. We were born and raised in the area, so we thought we could help them out,” Lashier said. “They might not have the employees or the knowledge, but we had the knowledge and skills.”
So the two started Freaky Fresh Marketing, focusing on targeted social media campaigns for clients. Lashier spoke with The Des Moines Register about their business.
