I think the author left out the biggest lie of all…
“This copy converts at XX%” or “I’ve written 3 controls (or whatever)” or “This sales letter has a gravity of 500%” or some variation thereof. Complete BS the vast majority of the time.
No self respecting copywriter I know would point to a winning offer of his so that somebody else can just come and knock it off.
Think of the damage it does to the previous client. Makes no sense.
PS: Years ago, Gary Bencivenga had winning control. The headline was “Lies! Lies! Lies!” It was a control that remained king for 15 years. Such is the power of calling out lies in the marketplace. Nice job, James Chartrand!
