You’ve finally finished writing your article. You’ve sweat over your choice of words and agonized about the best way to arrange them to effectively get your point across. You comb for errors, and by the time you publish you are absolutely certain that not a single typo survived. But, the first thing your readers notice isn’t your carefully crafted message, it’s the misspelled word in the fourth sentence…
What’s Up With That: Why It’s So Hard to Catch Your Own Typos
PS: Here’s what happens to me:
I sweat bullets over my masterpiece. I edit. I proofread line by line, word by word. Then I’ll hire a proofreader to give it a once over.
Sounds perfect, doesn’t it?
Not so fast. I’m not done.
It’s between this time and the time my copy is submitted that errors are inserted.
Whatever the reason may be in the moment, I keep fiddling with the piece. Can’t help it. I’m a perfectionist.
Unfortunately, when I do, fresh typos are inserted. Typos that slip through the net.
It’s embarrassing. The unfortunate part is usually after this, there’s usually no time remaining to hire a proofreader again for a one last once over.
Aggravating. My perfectionist facade has been blown.
