I’ve been posting a lot recentely about SEO and Social Media tips and I wanted to spend time today going over a basic necessity for any SEO campaign – keywords. Having the right keywords to focus on is critical for all your SEO efforts, and researching those keywords should be done before you begin any SEO campaign. You obviously know what some of the buzz words in your industry are and you will already know some of your main keywords to focus on before you even perform keyword research, however follow these about keyword research for SEO and you’ll be able to get a list of attainable keywords that you have the best chance at ranking for and get the best bang for your buck out of your SEO, social media marketing and AdWords campaign.
Selecting Your Trophy Keywords
Start out by brainstorming a bit and write down on a piece of paper or whiteboard what your main keywords in your industry are. These are known as the trophy keywords or fathead keywords. If you are a pizza restaurant, you’ll want to list pizza, pizza restaurant and Italian restaurant. If you sell electronics, you’ll want to list digital cameras, laptops, TV, computers and so on. Once you get these trophy keywords, do a competitive analysis and look at what the competition is using for their targeted keywords.
