Tonight, we attended the webinar entitled Business Tips for Writers and Publishers”. Sponsored by the Association of Publishers for Special Sales(APSS), this webinar was presented by Brian Jud and Carol Topp.

You’ve heard that writing is a business, but do you act that way? Author and accountant, Carol Topp, shares business start-up advice, record keeping tips and choices of business structure for authors and self-publishers. She uses pictures and plain English to explain complex subjects like business and taxes.

Carol Topp, CPA, is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and author who specializes in tax preparation, small/micro business accounting, and nonprofit accounting. Carol was born and raised in Wisconsin and graduated from Purdue University with a degree in Engineering. She worked for the US Navy as a cost analyst before obtaining her CPA license in 2000.

Through her writing, speaking and consulting, Carol converts tax rules and business language into clear, easy-to-understand English for readers. She is the is the author several books including Business Tips and Taxes for Writers, theMicro Business for Teens series and Homeschool Co-ops: How to Start Them, Run Them and Not Burn Out. In addition, she is a contributing author in Writers Digest’s 2014 Writers Market and the new Writers Digest Guide to Self Publishing.Carol has also published several magazine articles, hosts a podcast atDollarsAndSenseShow.com, and was the host for Starting a Micro Business, a public television program based on her book.
