3 Things to Avoid When Engaging in Social Media Marketing

In my previous blog post I touched on social media and how it has drastically changed marketing for small businesses. Social media has the potential to bring you large amounts of business. However, if utilized incorrectly, social media can also hamper you. Here are three things you should avoid when engaging in social media marketing:

1.  Avoid Superficial ‘Relationships.’

Try to form strategic relationships while engaging in social media marketing. DO NOT just try to gain as many followers and/or likes as possible. Try to follow and interact with people in your industry. Once you have connected with someone try to read as much of their content as possible. Learn about their business and what they offer. Why you ask? Well, because they may be able to help you grow your business. Maybe they offer a service that you desperately need. Maybe they provide excellent insight regarding your industry. The only way to know this is to take the time to learn about the people you are following or the people who are following you.
